Shelf Life
Some icons endure. Others disappear by Monday.
For centuries, the Venus de Milo has embodied timeless ideals of beauty, while a row of bright yellow marshmallow Peeps evokes nostalgia, celebration, and the fleeting rituals of contemporary life. Shelf Life brings these unlikely cultural symbols together, allowing the ephemeral and the enduring to occupy the same space.
Working in hand-cast plaster, the sculpture transforms a familiar seasonal confection into a contemporary intervention that is at once humorous and thought-provoking. What begins as an unexpected visual pairing gradually becomes a meditation on permanence, memory, and the shifting values we attach to cultural icons. The work asks us to consider what survives the passage of time—not only in art, but in the traditions, objects, and experiences that shape our collective memory.
