Common Ground
Why do the simplest things connect us so deeply?
Circus Peanuts aren't luxury.
They aren't rare.
They aren't sophisticated.
Yet they have an extraordinary ability to transport us back to another time, another place, or another person.
Some of our strongest memories aren't attached to extraordinary objects. They're tied to the familiar things we encounter throughout our lives—objects so ordinary we rarely stop to consider why they matter.
The candy isn't significant because it's exceptional. It matters because it connects us.
We all arrive with different histories, yet we meet on common ground through the familiar objects that shape our lives.
Working in plaster using traditional mold-making and casting techniques, Common Ground pairs the formality of a Victorian tea service with the unmistakable familiarity of Circus Peanuts. The unexpected combination invites viewers to reconsider where cultural significance truly resides—not only in museums and monuments, but also in the everyday objects that quietly become part of our shared cultural memory.
